Rotating and fixed (thrust) centers are designed to center and fix the workpiece in the desired position during turning.

The rotating center is used if excessive pressure appears during processing and friction increases, leading to overheating and deformation of the part. In such a situation, the use of a thrust center becomes impossible. The rotating center rotates together with the workpiece due to the bearing. This helps to avoid overheating in the contact area of the rotating part and the tooling, which allows you to work at increased speeds exceeding 70 m/min.

The non-rotating (thrust) center performs one function: it holds the workpiece. At the same time, as the name implies, it remains stationary even when the disc rotates.
